TAK Academy Training Courses

TAK Server Basic Training

This course will teach you the basics of TAK Server installation and administration. You will walk away with a concrete understanding of the TAK Server deployment models and how to securely setup a TAK Server that meets your organization's needs. We will explore how to install TAK Server on bare metal, in a virtual machine, or as containers, how to select, enable, and configure the appropriate ports and services and how to generate certificates and user accounts. Through instruction and hands on lab exercises you will gain the know how to install and run TAK Server!

TAK Server Boot Camp

In this course you will learn more advanced concepts of TAK Server administration and configuration. We will cover how to connect your TAK Server to other TAK Servers (federation), how to define secure yet usable data retention policies, how build out a robust certificate management practice and cover the tricks and tips that will allow you to take full advantage of all TAK capabilities. You will learn to monitor and manage the health of your server through metrics and administrative user interfaces.

TAK Server Cadre

Here you will learn to go beyond what TAK provides out of the box, to meet your organization's unique functional, performance, and scale requirements. We will cover the employment of TAK Server plugins to integrate with other systems and data feeds. We will look at how to use the emerging TAK Server clustering capability to scale to large user bases. We will discuss cloud deployment tips and tricks, and cover additional TAK relevant tools available for you in various environments (e.g, AWS).

ATAK Boot Camp

In this course you will learn the basics of ATAK installation, configuration, and use. We will cover the different versions of ATAK, the different ways to access them, and which one is right for your organization. We will discuss how to properly setup your ATAK device to connect to other ATAKs and to TAK Server, and the various settings required for effective use of TAK. We will cover all of the basic ATAK user interface elements and capabilities, including location reporting, the use and sharing of map markers, chat tools, drawing tools, and more.

ATAK Cadre

This course covers the advanced concepts of using ATAK, and the appropriate ways to configure it for different network types and contexts. We will explore the space of existing ATAK plugins, discuss how to acquire, load, and use plugins, and dive deep on several common plugins, like Data Sync. You will walk away from this course with the knowledge required to apply ATAK in diverse and unique environments, and to tailor the tool to your needs.

TAK Ecosystem Boot Camp

Here you will gain the big picture overview of the whole TAK Ecosystem - who is using it, how is it used, what tools are available, where to go for help, and more. We will look at each of the major TAK components (e.g., ATAK, WinTAK, WebTAK, iTAK, VTAK, and TAK Server) along with other emerging tools and capabilities. You will learn what TAK resources exist on TAK.gov and elsewhere, and how to use them to train yourself, your team, and beyond. We will cover the rich TAK plugin ecosystem, across TAK client types, and how you can acquire the TAK extensions you need. We will also look at the security constraints that you may need to consider when using TAK, such as Authority To Operate (ATO) acquisition.
